Our Puppy Placement Process

At Green Roof Farm Labradors, we believe finding the right puppy is about more than simply choosing a color or gender through pictures — it’s about creating the best possible match for both the puppy and their future family. Our process is designed to ensure every puppy is thoughtfully placed in a home that fits their personality, energy level, and purpose.

Step 1 — Join the Interest List

Families interested in a future litter are welcome to contact us and join our interest list. To be added to our interest list, please message us through Facebook with information about the type of Labrador you are looking for, your lifestyle, and any goals you may have for your future puppy.

Step 2 — Puppy Application

All prospective families are required to complete a puppy application prior to placing a deposit. This helps us better understand your home environment, experience with dogs, lifestyle, and what you are hoping for in a Labrador Retriever. Our goal is to ensure each puppy is thoughtfully matched with the right family and living situation.

Step 3 — Litter Announcement

Once a litter is confirmed, families on our interest list will be contacted first with information regarding expected colors, timing, and availability.

Step 4 — Deposits

Deposits are accepted once puppies are approximately three weeks of age. Deposits reserve your place for a puppy based on preferred gender and color, not a specific puppy at that time.
This is because at the time deposits take place puppies are still young and have not developed their temperment and personality, we feel that prospective families should not pick a puppy based on just a picture at such a young age, therefore they only place a deposit on the preferred color Labrador and the gender they are looking for.

Deposits are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. the order in which deposits are received determines the order in which families will select their puppy within their reserved gender and color group on go home day.

Step 5 — Raising, Evaluating & Temperament Testing

From birth through eight weeks, puppies are raised in our home with daily handling, socialization, Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), Early Scent Introduction (ESI), and age-appropriate exposure experiences. We closely observe each puppy’s temperament, confidence, energy level, and personality as they develop.

At approximately seven weeks of age, each puppy undergoes temperament and aptitude evaluations. These assessments help us better understand each puppy’s individual traits and allow us to help guide families toward the puppy that best fits their lifestyle, goals, and household environment.

Step 6 — Puppy Matching & Selection

Rather than choosing puppies solely based on appearance at a very young age, puppy selections take place on go-home day once personalities and temperaments are more developed and accurately evaluated.

Prospective families will meet and choose from the puppies available within the specific gender and color reserved through their deposit. This process helps ensure fairness while also allowing families to interact with the puppies best suited to their reservation and preferences.

We are always happy to help guide families toward the puppy that best matches their home, lifestyle, and goals — whether that be companionship, an active family dog, hunting, performance, or service work potential.

Step 7 — AKC Registration Information

All Green Roof Farm Labrador puppies are sold with Limited Registration through the American Kennel Club. Full Registration may become available in the future once all breeder requirements outlined within our health contract have been fully completed and approved.

*A copy of our contract will be available for families to review after a deposit is placed, this gives families ample time for them to review and ask any questions before puppy pick ups.*

Our program places strong emphasis on responsible ownership, health, temperament, and preserving the integrity of the Labrador Retriever breed.

Step 8 — Go-Home Day

Puppies go home with:

  • AKC registration paperwork

  • Health records

  • Age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming

  • A health guarantee contract

  • Puppy starter information

  • Familiar food and transition recommendations

Important Health & Safety Policy

For the health and safety of our puppies, outside visitors are not permitted prior to pickup day. This helps reduce the risk of illness exposure during critical early developmental stages.

Important Notes:

**CASH ONLY at puppy pick-up.**

  • We offer a $100 discount for all First Responders (EMS, Fire, Police) and Military (active or retired) with valid ID. This will be taken off the final price of your puppy.

  • Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.

  • A deposit holds your pick position, not a specific puppy.

  • If a buyer chooses not to move forward with their selection, after the deposit is placed their deposit is forfeited (no refund) and the next family in line will be offered the opportunity for that position.

  •  if a buyer does not show up on the given pick up day the puppy will be placed back up for placement, deposits will not be refunded.

  • We do not sell littermates together due to risks of Littermate Syndrome.

  • We do not ship puppies; pick-up must be done in person.

Our goal is to provide each family with a well-bred, well-socialized Labrador Retriever that will be a beloved companion for years to come
